Short Answer
Programmers are not supposed to be huge data store of knowledge. But a simple Hash table with really fast look ups. The faster look up time is better programmer you are. :)
Long Answer
Typical Job description on LinkedIn looks like
“Ability to prototype fast and iterate design solutions. ”
No programmer job says
“Ability to memorize language X methods and functions”
Joe always knows how to find a solution or at least a work around to solution.
Joe knows what to look up on stack overflow when issues occur.
Joe trusts Stack Overflow and doesn’t feel bad using SO because he knows, it is not possible for him to know everything about a programming language.
Joe is a great programmer!
