Who is the Elon Musk of software?

My answer goes to Linus Trovalds. His famous invention would be Operating system LINUX which doesn’t need an introduction.

But many guys don’t know that he also created versioning system called GIT. Both of these if commercially sold could get him billions of dollars now. But he truly believes in free open source software.Guess what even after great success he is still an active maintainer of Linux distributions.

Second would be , Jeff Atwood

Founder of StackOverflow, a site without which there wouldn’t be so many programmers today and we would still be programming like 1960s. After success of Stack Exchange, he took a break and then helped in founding Trello, a task management system.

And after this, he current venture has been Discourse, a systematic open source discussion platform.

I have deep respect for both of these guys plainly because of their ideology of free and open source development.

True developers at heart.
